What are casement windows?

Otherwise known as side hung windows, or ‘windows that open like a door’, timber case windows date back even further than sash windows to around the 16th century. Often synonymous with cottages, thanks to their strong lines and classic design style, they add authentic character to period homes.

Whether we’re restoring your windows or hand-crafting replacements, you can rest assured that your new windows will blend traditional appeal with modern techniques, to ensure your home is stylish, warm and energy efficient.

Restoring casement windows

All too often existing casement windows have been painted shut. They’re unable to function, give little or no ventilation, and yet they can still be cold and draughty during winter months.

Our full restoration process starts with a full window appraisal, allowing us to establish the exact requirements of the restoration, identifying existing period features to be retained and establishing the full function of the window.

Draught proofing and renovating casement windows

Casement windows usually require draught-proofing because they are old and ill-fitting, with un-equal gaps around the sash. We can draught-proof your casement windows using our innovative sealing system, so you can enjoy their traditional charm and a more comfortable home.

We install our draught-proofing system into either the frame of the window or the casement sash itself depending upon the construction of the window. The draught-proofing pile carrier is routed into the timber giving it a fixed point and making the system an integral part of the window.

New casement windows

The restoring and draught proofing your casement windows will vastly increase the thermal efficiency and noise reduction qualities of your windows. But sometimes the windows can be beyond repair. In this instance, unique replacement casements are made specifically for you to exactly match the originals. All our joinery is made from either Accoya or sustainably sourced hardwoods for long-lasting durability.

Slimline double glazing for casement windows

When it comes to glazing, we can offer you slimline double glazing combined with solid glazing bars in your new sash windows.
