Plantation shutters are the ones with lots of different slats – allowing you to adjust the lighting and ambience in the room. If you’d like to replace your shutters, we can match your existing ones for style, or we can simply craft new ones to fit with your preferences and the architectural heritage of your home.
Different slats (also called ‘louvers’) mean different levels of light. You’ll need to consider this when choosing your shutter style. The three most popular sizes are the 47mm louver shutters, which suit any window and let in the least amount of light; the 64mm louver which lets in more light (and is what most people choose); and the 89mm louver, which tends to suit larger windows and patio doors.
Once you’ve decided on plantation style shutters, you can choose from a range of different designs.
- Full height shutters – run all the way from the top to the bottom of your window. If you wish, our full height shutters can be designed to have a horizontal dividing bar between the louvers.
- Café-style shutters – also known as ‘half-height’ shutters, since they finish half way down the window. This style provides a good level of privacy from street view, but also allows plenty of light to flood in.
- Tier on tier shutters – essentially merge the two styles above. Although full height, you can open the top half independently from the bottom half, allowing you a bit more flexibility with your shutters.
We’ll always make sure our shutters are crafted to your preferences, and fit with the style of your home. Whatever design you choose, we can provide a range of materials, styles and colours to suit your needs. And whilst we always try to use FSC certified hardwoods, we offer a range of options to meet your budget and requirements.
